Homemade Bread!

on September 20, 2011
This past weekend my daughter and I learned how to make Braided Bread!

The weather was chilly and we were having soup for dinner, so why not make bread!

It was not as hard as we first thought. Making bread takes patience, at first you pray the yeast proofs, then you have to wait for the dough to rise.

The yeast proofed right the first time! Now onto the mixing and kneeding! Kneeding is good if you have alot on your mind. You get to ‘work’ some things out! Then you let it rise…patience is at work again! Wow! It worked! Look how big it got! Punch it down, aww, and kneed it a little more. Now cut into 3 pieces and make the long snakey pieces…..now for the hard part, start to braid the dough!

First step, braid the dough

It worked!

Now we let it rest again, so it can rise some more! Patience…..cover it up and come back in 30 minutes!

Glazing the bread before the oven!

Brush the dough with an egg glaze before putting in oven, to make it shiny and golden when it bakes! Again, be patient, it smells sooo good! It is getting bigger! It is getting golden brown! Is it done yet? Patience is just working it’s magic on you! Soon!

Ta Da!

 The finished Product!

It was soo good! Had to make a second one for dinner, they ate the first one warm out of the oven with just butter!

The 2nd one was just as amazing to make and watch, now we feel like pros!

Also made Raisin Bread for breakfast, we were on a roll!

  1. Looks yummy! Makes me want a bowl of chili to go with it!!

I use my bread machine to make bread. I’m lazy and NOT patient.

That is professional looking bread. Is there anything you can’t do??
