Pinterest Celery

How many times have you looked in the fridge and found either the celery has gone yucky or you just didn’t have any.

So frustrating especially when you only need a stalk or two.

One day while cruising through Pinterest, I came upon an article about growing your own Celery.

It sounded feasible, was easy enough to do, and wouldn’t take up any extra room on the deck.

Off to the garden to get a flower pot! I can do this! Easy Peasy!

On the very bottom of the pot I put coffee filters, to hold the soil in, then in went the biodegradable packing peanuts to take up some of the space, and then the potting soil. I use the kind that has fertilizer already in it….Easy Peasy is the motto!

Yes I had purchased a fresh Celery bunch, just yesterday at the grocery store, and used my two stalks for some tuna salad.

I cut off the bottom of the stalk about 3 inches from the bottom.

The rest of the celery was put away in the fridge and the bottom was planted in the pot of soil.

Just stuck it in the dirt, about two inches deep, and gave it a good drink of water!

What’s to lose? If it didn’t work, it would all go in the compost pile!

Day 2

Day 2, The Grasshopper seems to approve!

Day 3

Day 3 the leaves are starting to sprout!

Day 7

Day 7 Real Leaves are growing!

Day 9

Day 9, The stalks are starting to form!

TaDa! The celery is actually growing, there are stalks starting to form.

Hopefully soon they will be big enough to start to harvest!

According to the article, you can just cut off what you need and new stalks will grow,

kind of like perpetual celery!

The Crochet Lady’s Crocheted Christmas Tree Ornaments Review

“Crochet Covered Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments 2 1/2inch balls, created with high quality cotton thread and decorated with “Pearl” accent. Red, White and Green. Beautiful to hang on tree or in your Christmas decor. Sold as a set of three.  Made in the USA”

I found the Crochet Lady’s Christmas tree ornaments when doing a little maintenance on my Shop Military Spouse Made Facebook page.  We were in the process of redoing our tree.  Well let me be totally honest.  We had been trying to redo our tree’s decorations for 2 years.  Each year we would put everything up and it was just missing something.  I can’t really describe it other than it wasn’t a great tree.  Anyway!

I had been searching for little additions and these gorgeous ornaments were just about as delightful as Lauren (the owner) herself! They came…

Perfect Lemon Bars

Yesterday while cruising my Pinterest, a recipe was posted for Perfect Lemon Bars.

Thinking they would be a perfect ending to supper tonight, so off to the kitchen. All ingredients needed were on hand, this was going to be easy!

It wouldn’t be summer with out some Lemon Bars and this summer has been a hot one!

I love Lemon Bars! Just like Lemon Pie but better!

Perfect Lemon Bars

The Best Lemon Bars I have ever made!

I am not a professional food photographer….but I had to get a picture before the kids got into them!

We made some Blueberry topping from the blueberries we picked earlier this month to go with these Perfect Lemon Bars.

These would be perfect with a hot cup of coffee, BUT! The kids ate them all…happy they enjoyed!

Summer in Moore County

Over the past few days, the kids and I have been reaping the rewards of fresh fruit and produce from here in Moore County!

We have gone Blueberry and Blackberry picking, picked up some delicious Peaches out at the orchard and purchased fresh Cantaloupe melons from the farmers’ roadside sales!. All of the fruits and vegetables are starting to come in now. The white or silver queen corn is being harvested and is just scrumptious on the grill! All of the fruits are so sweet and fully ripe, there nothing like purchasing local from the farmer’s!

The Blueberries have made their way into some scrumptious Blueberry Muffins! A fantastic breakfast this morning, the berries are so sweet this year! I am looking for a recipe for blueberry pie filling I can can up in pint jars. My boys enjoy cheesecake with blueberry topping! The Blackberries are going to be made into Blackberry Jam today, and the Peaches, right now are just being eaten out of the bowl! Sweet and Juicy!

On Monday morning I will be picking up some more to ship to my sister out of state, I know she and her boys are going to really enjoy them!

This summer started nice cool and I think that gave the fruits and veggies time to set their roots and get a good start. As of lately, like the rest of the country we have been in the middle of a brutal heat wave. Thus the fruits are ripening quickly! We need to get them as soon as they are available to enjoy them at their peak of flavor. And Oh! What fantastic flavors this summer!

Our garden was half eaten by the local deer, but the tomato plants have recovered well and are starting to bear fruits. Can’t wait for the Roma tomatoes to start coming in, I make sauce and freeze it for use all winter long. There just isn’t anything better than a nice fat Beefsteak Tomato sliced on a sandwich! I will post pictures soon, as they get a little bigger!

It’s 102 outside….

It is 102 outside. If I think about it, I will just get hotter.

So I sat down and crocheted another pair of Convertible Mittens out of the pretty yarns from a few weeks ago!

When you are working on something, are you thinking, listening, praying? Many tell me they are saying a prayer for the person the item they are creating is intended. I found myself doing just that! When I am crocheting I am relaxing and thinking. You have to pay attention to what you are doing while crocheting, but I can also use the time to think out different things going on in our lives. Sometimes the TV is on and I listen, you can’t watch, HaHaHa! Sometimes the radio is on…a country station, they play the top 40, a classic rock station, or a golden oldies station. Mostly it is white noise in the background. A lot of the time I am thinking, or saying a prayer.

This weekend I was able to pick up some just beautiful Cobalt Grey Bamboo Angora yarn. The grey is almost a slate grey, soft and warm. I also started a beautiful shawl. As I crochet I found myself thinking of my Mother, she would have loved this one!

All of the pretty yarns from last month have been used, But! Have no fear for I have a stash that could last a life time! No, not really, but if my husband saw it he would think so! Think it is time to start using more of it in my newest creations!

Tonight I will work more on the shawl, this week I need to get moving on a blanket and special little items for a baby boy soon to arrive!

Deer don’t like Eggplants!

This morning when I pulled into the driveway I noticed something was different about the garden.

Why are there leaves at the top of the green bean plants on the trellis and not on the trellis it self?

Something just isn’t looking right…..upon closer closer inspection I found the gate had been left open, uh oh!

Not a good sign!

Where are all the green bean plants???

What's left of the tomatoe plants!!!

Deer also appear to enjoy fresh tomatoes!

Deer apparently enjoy fresh Cucumber vine also! Ate the plants almost to the ground!

They like Pepper plants too!

They left the telltale sign of hoof marks in the soil….

Deer footprints in the soil!

Deer footprints in the soil!

Hopefully now, when the plants grow back, they will be a bit stronger with the good root system already developed!

They did not eat the Eggplant, Corn, or Snow Peas!

Picky eaters! Wonder if their Mother’s know they are picky eaters!

So Little Time!

This morning I was cruising the Internet as I usually do with my morning cup of coffee……I am perplexed as to what to do!

I found so many new and beautiful patterns for crochet I would love to create. These patterns are truly beautiful and practical.

Sweaters, Shawls, Scarves, Hats, Mittens…I could go on and on! Where to start? Which yarn? What to create next? What color and texture?

Patterns, Yarns! So many beauties yet so little time! My youngest son, says I am addicted to yarn! He has hit the nail on the head!

Good thing we have a crock pot.

The kids will not starve this week, dinner will be easy, delicious and self serve!

Remember the beautiful wool from an earlier post?

I have started to create my convertible / cellphone mittens!

I love the softness of the wool, it is not like the old fashioned itchy wool, this is soft to touch and will be nice and warm this winter!

At this time I have a pair completed in the wine / maroon, with a vintage brass tone button, this is an updated version of the ones I made last winter. A few changes for the better, the cuff is longer and I have added a loop at the top and button on the cuff to hold the loop when top is folded back.  Last night I started a pair in the teal and will be finishing them today!

This Cardi Shawl is my next endeavor!

The Crochet Lady’s next crochet endeavor!

A cardigan and Shawl all in one from Interweave.  How ingenious!

Crocheted in a medium weight yarn, I can see it in a nice lighter weight, merino wool.

The hunt is on for just the right yarn for this beautiful Cardi Shawl. I love the gray color, it is very versatile, coordinating vintage style with everyday comfort. Can be worn with your favorite jeans or dresses up for the evening out. Perfect for cool Fall and Spring weather!

So, if you don’t see me out and about for the next few days, don’t worry, you know where I am…in my chair crocheting away!

WoW! Where did this week go?!

Where did the week go?

Life around here has been crazy busy! But ALL good!

My Daughter graduated from High School last Friday Night!

It was a very nice ceremony on the football field under the lights. Last year when my oldest son graduated, they were in the pours of rain!

This year the  weather was just perfect!

A light enough breeze to keep the mosquitoes away and just warm enough not to need a sweater!

The graduates all looked their best! All of the parents in attendance were so proud!

Unfortunately my husband wasn’t able to attend, as he remains deployed with the US Army to Afghanistan. So as a surprise for my daughter, my sons and I were able to obtain a full length picture of Daddy and had a life size photo cut out of him made….

Operation Daddy on a stick was launched! We went to the local sign maker and they did the cut out for us, even they were in on the secret!

On graduation night, we dropped off my daughter to be with her class mates, in the mean time my son was on line with ‘Daddy” so that we could be down in front so that she would be able to see him.

We created a stand up for the cut out from PVC pipes and we used zip ties to hold him to it.Daddy on a Stick

We only had the top half with us and put ‘him’ up for her to see as the procession came out onto the field. She face palmed when she saw him standing there! Some of the other graduates asked what was with the sign….”That’s my Dad”, “Oh! Cool” was the response of the event!

After the ceremony we were able to get some great photos with all of the kids and Daddy too!

You wouldn’t know he wasn’t there in person, but he certainly was with us in full spirit!

New Items!

Today I finally posted a new item to my shop!

Life has been crazy busy this past month!

But have no fear I am trying to get back in shop shape and start listing items 2 – 3 times a week!
